Quick Fashion History Lesson, pt. 2
You see these? These are Victorian fashion plates.
Your brown on brown on brown Steampunk outfit? Your perfectly-coordinated Classic Lolita ensemble? Not Victorian. But garish colours and mismatched prints? Absolutely.
And hey, I wouldn’t wear these things either! They are, well, gauche and outlandish! But the next time I see Victoriana as a justification for saying something is too bright or clashy, I will actually scream.

I never understood the “Victorian” connection to Loli either. Except maybe the parasols and hair accessories. Everything else looks more like it was inspired by ballet tutus and frilly 50s prom dresses. Granted, I do think Lolita dresses are cute, but calling them Victorian never made sense to me.
