In the first half of 20th century, this portrait was attributed to Gentile Bellini. The name of the sitter is unknown, since 1980 it is usually given as Giovanni Emo, previously Bartolomeo d’Alviano, Bartolomeo Colleoni, and Giacomo Marcello were suggested.
