Pearson had childhood polio, but she overcame that condition to have a distinguished career as a painter of exquisite interior scenes, figures and still life.
She studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School and studied figure painting with Edmund Tarbell.
There are Japonism influences in the dress of the piano player. Japonism is a general term for the influence of the arts of Japan on those of the West.
