Les romantiques. Palacio de cristal. Parque del Retiro. MAYO 2011. MADRID. (by Anacrónicos Recreación Histórica)

Victorian ladies inside the Crystal Palace (“our sweet home”). Elvira, Lady Áyden y Lady Elizabeth Winchester.
The Crystal Palace is a metal and glass structure located in the Jardines del Retiro in Madrid (Spain). It was built in 1887 for the Exposition of the Philippines, held that year. Its structure is metal, and is completely covered by glass plates. It was built by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, and construction project was inspired by the Crystal Palace, Paxton (U.K.).
A Graveyard and a Park. This meet up started with a visit to St Isidro’s Cemetery, one of the most romantic and beautiful graveyards in Europe and the longest-standing one in Madrid. It also included a personal homage to the Spanish Illustrious Gentlemen at their Pantheon and a walk down Retiro Park that ran through its Rose Garden and into its Crystal Palace.

"‘That miserable Crystal Palace, the wretched place, where every species of fraud and immorality will be practised. Let the Britisher beware, they will have their food robbed, there will be assassinations, there will be stabbings in the dark. The dearest wish of my heart is that the confounded building called the Crystal Palace should be dashed to pieces.’"

— Colonel Sibthorp on The Crystal Palace
