NOTE: Born in March 1778, Robert Lloyd was a successful London hat maker and was “well known in his day as a keen appreciator of philosophy, a writer, inventor and a member of clubs and societies, including London’s famous ‘Eccentric Club.’” (1) Robert also filed a number of successful patents concerned with hat making.
