Spaceship Reading Is Fundamental! by Mel(SD) on Flickr.

The most awesome looking Geisel Library at UC-San Diego. I like how you can see the Dr. Seuss statue dwarfed below this massive architectural beauty.

Designed in the late 1960s by William Pereira. The tower is a prime example of brutalist architecture. It rises 8 stories to a height of 110 ft (33.5 m). Pereira originally conceived of a spherical building resting atop a pedestal, with the structural elements on the inside. After several drafts of this ball-shaped design, the structural elements were deemed as being too space-consuming, and they were moved to the outside of the structure, essentially resulting in the current “lantern” design.

Victorian time-travellers are invited to join fellow futurists, explorers, and adventurers at a steampunk-themed tea on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m., in Geisel Library—known as the “mother ship”—on the UC San Diego campus. from UC San Diego Library to Host Steampunk Tea Aug. 25
