The Vow of Louis XIII - Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (1824)
Joan of Arc at the Coronation of Charles VII (1854). Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres (French, 1780-1867). Oil on canvas. Louvre, Paris.
Joan is depicted in plate armor holding her banner as she attends in Reims Cathedral the coronation of Charles VII , the dauphin she helped achieve the throne. In real life, Joan never wore plate armor, but it was a common form of artistic license among later artists.
Joan of Arc (c1412–31), a 17 year old peasant girl, inspired a French army to break the English siege of the French city of Orléans and to win other important battles.
