Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc), saint, alleged heretic, military leader, iconic figure in French history and general hottie.
As is apparent by now, I like strong women and they don’t get much stronger than Joan of Arc. Let’s just not dwell on what happened to her.

Edwardian actress Gabrielle Ray as Joan of Arc (via)
Jan. 6th, 2012 marks the 600th anniversary of the birth of Joan d’Arc, the sainted saviour of the French born a poor peasant in Domrémy in 1412. The date is undocumented although generally accepted, and anniversary celebrations will be held all over France throughout the year. French president Nicolas Sarkozy will begin the day with a visit to the house in which the Maid of Orleans was said to have been born (authenticity also up for debate), to unveil a commemorative plaque.
