Jan. 6th, 2012 marks the 600th anniversary of the birth of Joan d’Arc, the sainted saviour of the French born a poor peasant in Domrémy in 1412. The date is undocumented although generally accepted, and anniversary celebrations will be held all over France throughout the year. French president Nicolas Sarkozy will begin the day with a visit to the house in which the Maid of Orleans was said to have been born (authenticity also up for debate), to unveil a commemorative plaque.
